Smaller, darker & longer-billed than typical Z.dauma the Ceylon Scaly Thrush is increasingly accepted as a separate species.
This is an exceedingly shy endemic of the wet forest floor which can be exceedingly difficult to see. This species is not uncommon in Sinharaja forest where it is best looked for along the trails at dusk. This species is essentially crepuscular and is very difficult to photograph. Unfortunately I only managed one appalling image of this bird.
