Assistance in identifying this immature vulture would be appreciated. It was photographed on 15 July 2009 low over a humid subtropical riparian forest near Guaytan in a valley surrounded by arid thorn scrub in the interior Guatemala Department of El Progreso. The only Cathartes-species vulture expected in this location is Cathartes aura, Turkey Vulture, which is very common. C. burrovianus (Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture) is uncommon in coastal locations of Guatemala.
