This juvenile Trumpeter Swan showed up at Dixon Reservoir on 19 Nov 2011, viewed by many observers. I photographed it the next morning in low light. The large size in relation to nearby Canada Geese, the shape, head characteristics, and voice (a soft, low honk) all point to Trumpeter Swan as the correct identification. The low ride of the bird's back end and greenish legs clinch the identification, as they both rule out Tundra Swan.
A few days later the swan flew north 2 miles to College Lake where it stayed through 7 Dec. On 8 Dec, it moved 2.5 miles east to Sheldon Lake. I photographed it again at Sheldon Lake on 9 Dec
