I spent the weekend of February 7-8, 2015 birding in one of the birdiest locations in the country, San Diego County in southern California. I rented a car at the airport on Saturday morning, and then spent most of the day birding south of the city near the mouth of the Tijuana River and the Tijuana River Valley Regional Park, plus brief stops near the airport for a staked-out Tropical Kingbird, Imperial Beach bayshore bike trail, Chula Vista stake-out for Thick-billed Kingbird (missed) and Lower Otay Reservoir. After overnighting in El Cajon (east of San Diego), I spent a delightful and productive Sunday morning at Lindo Lake park in Lakeside, then briefly visited the coast at Point La Jolla, and the Mission Bay Jetty, followed by a long afternoon walk along the shallow San Diego River. I tallied 130 species, which included 4 exotic species (3 psittacines and Black-throated Magpie-Jay) and a couple of life sub-species (58 bird species represented in the photos here).
