Rufous-necked Wood-Rail, New Mexico, 13 July 2013

This Mesoamerican endemic is normally found in swampy areas (like Mangroves) from southeast Mexico to northern South America, but on 7 July 2013, a young ornithologist named Matt Daw noticed one walk through his viewfinder while videotaping a Least Bittern at Bosque del Apache N.W.R. in Socorro County, in south-central NM. I took these photos between 6 and 7 pm on 13 July 2013.
