Red-bellied Woodpecker in Loveland, Colorado 1 Jan 2008
This after-hatch-year female Red-bellied Woodpecker was discovered by Scott Rashid on the Loveland Christmas Bird Count in Larimer County, CO. This species is resident in extreme eastern Colorado, but very rare further west. This bird was at the Sylvan Dale Ranch in the lower foothills of the Rocky Mountains, near riparian habitat along the Big Thompson River (about 150 miles out-of-range).
