Mystery Gull Y Possible Vega Gull

Possible first cycle Vega Gull at Lake Loveland, Loveland, Larimer County, Colorado (USA), 22 February 2011. This taxon is not on the state list, although it may be overlooked.

Note on taxonomy: Most gull texts treat Vega Gull as a species, Larus vegae. However, field identification guides follow the American Ornithologists' Union's classification of Vega Gull as a subspecies of Herring Gull, Larus argentatus vegae.

UPDATE: New images on page 2 were taken 19 March 2011 at the same location (8 of these were taken by Steve Mlodinow). These appear to be the same bird.

UPDATE: Fall 2012. Submitted record "not accepted" by Colorado Bird Records Committee.
