This gallery features birds observed during the 12th annual Loveland Christmas Bird Count in Loveland, Larimer County, Colorado (USA).
Many of these photos represent rare birds or identification challenges.
Summary: About 35 observers counted 100 species on Sunday Jan 1 for the Loveland CBC (previous high species total was 93). New birds for the count were:
Tundra Swan, Mew Gull, Barn Owl, Rock Wren, Western Bluebird (3), Eastern Bluebird (2), Lincoln’s Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow (2). New High Counts were Canvasback (16), Eared Grebe (4), Rough-legged Hawk (7), Ring-billed Gull (1125), Herring Gull (125), Lesser Black-backed Gull (2), Spotted Towhee (17) and Brewer’s Blackbird (21). Three additional species have been recorded for Count Week: Wild Turkey, Merlin and Great-tailed Grackle. The Loveland CBC are projects of the National Audubon Society and the Fort Collins Audubon Society.
