Two species are found in the region, the White-barred Piculet and the Ochre-collared Piculet. Apparently hybrids occur further south, near Sao Paulo. This bird doesn't quite match the drawings in Tomas Sigrist's Avifauna Brasileira for either species. Maybe it is an immature plumage? Maybe a hybrid?
