Water Ouzel in Winter

The American Dipper (Cinclus mexicanus) is a small passerine bird of montane rivers and streams in western North America from Alaska to Central America. No other passerine bird in North America regularly swims. Originally called the Water Ouzel. I photographed this immature bird in January along the partly frozen Big Thompson River a few miles west of Loveland, Colorado (Larimer County).
