Presidio, Texas & Ojinaga, Mexico

March 29th: Arrive at beautiful Ft. Stockton, Texas at 6AM after a Greyhound all nighter from Austin. A five hour layover before departure to Presidio gave me time to wander the streets and try to find the answer to the enduring question, "Why would anyone live in a place like this?" I failed miserably, but had some good conversations and lots of observations.

Off to Presidio, and then across the international border in the mid-afternoon. Dragged my duffel on the streets of Ojinaga, got cell phone service, and decided to stay the night so that I could get to Creel at a proper hour.

my relatives were from the presidio and OJ area, my grandfather owned a fam out side Presidio, as a kid my parents would drive from new mexico and visit relatives, I loved it, the traveling, going throught Peco, tex and down to Marfa and a few stopson the way, great memories.

I lived in Presidio many years ago and I must tell you it was nice then. We lived there in 1957 but we had to leave because of the flood. We were farmers and lost everything. We ended up in Roswell NM and then on to Las Cruces NM. I would love to go back and see what Presidio really looks like now. I know that there is hardly any agriculture left. Would like to hear from anyone that lived there at that time or before. We also resided in Redford TX, just down the road from there. Thanks for the photos. In the last 1960s and early 1970s I was a young man living in Far West Texas and spent a lot of time in Presidio and Ojinaga. I usually was found at the Oil Flyer Cafe or at the pool hall down the street. I had a girlfriend, Candy in Presidio and a girlfriend, Johanna in Ojinaga. I have wonderful memories of that area.

Beautiful Ft. Stockton, compared to "why anyone would want to live in Presidio?" This is an enduring question? Oh, I guess it's because we don't have a WalMart here! Well, I can't even count the reasons why I LOVE Presidio. See you at the mall in suburbia.
