These are actually old highway department homes, not RR worker homes! There were old hwy signs stored there and a vehicle maintenance area evident as of a few years ago, plus comments of old-timers who lived and worked in the area have convinced me. Upon searching the land records, I saw that state hwy dept was former owner. Last year, the BNSF tore down what I beleive was the last home used by RR workers. This was in the heart of old Amboy, along the tracks, just on the N side of tracks. The depot was once there also, as well as the original site of the old school house.

The hwy dept closed the RR crossing there and extended Amboy Rd to the west of Amboy, to join hwy 66. To get to Amboy from the south, you now had to drive to this "T" intersection, turn right, and come to west side RR crossing (now the only one, as they also closed the Saltus crossing to the east), very close to the hwy dept homes pictured. Maps not updated still show the old section of Amboy Rd leading straight into old Amboy. This area today is behind the power station on Amboy Rd.
Thank you for your great pictures!
