The lightning lit up the water dripping from the shutter.

An amazing light show, but frustrating because of all the wind and rain. Much cloud to cloud, with the antennas crackling and buzzing, and the tips turned blue as the charge increased until a strike somewhere relieved the potential energy. I'm a little exposed sitting here on a mountaintop.

Just couldn't safely get outside, and with the blowing rain, I had to the lenses and camera to think about. Rained a full 2 & 1/2 hours while the storm persisted. Not many decent images unfortunately.

Saddleback is near the boundry of the Tahoe and Plumas National forests. The Tahoe received over 1300 downstrikes, and the Plumas perhaps nearly as many. Can't find the numbers, but there was far more cloud to cloud lightning than downstrikes.
