The Island of Maui is shaped like a peanut. The smaller lobe has an older and lower volcano (West Maui) and the big part of the peanut has the younger, taller volcano named Haleakala (East Maui). In the middle there is a narrow strip of low lying land where much of the islands permanent population lives. Often you can look from one "side" of Maui to the other and be fooled that it is another island. So it is in this view looking from East to West Maui.
