Golden Apples of the Sun (A Light Fixture at Home)
Believe it or not this is a section of a light fixture in our house which I photographed for a project involving “abstract images.”

Fine Arts (SUNYA Campus)
The flattened perspective in this image was achieved by cropping to 1/3 of the original frame.
The austere and open molded-concrete architecture of the Uptown Campus, taken from earlier Stone designs intended for much warmer climates, is particularly unsuitable to Albany’s somewhat harsh winter climate. The University Hall building was intended as a “counterpoint” to Stone’s design.

Capitol in Autumn (Empire State Plaza)
The Capitol Building was built 1867-1899 in the Romanesque and Renaissance revival styles (at twice the cost of the U.S. Capitol). The lavishly marble-clad Plaza (built 1965-1978) has been described as being in the “International Power Style of the Fifties", the buildings often compared to those built by Fascist governments. The project is the most costly government building complex ever built. Your tax dollars at work! Can you find Waldo?

State Museum (Empire State Plaza)
When seen from a particular angle this building, familiar to many of us, contains a disorderly collection of shapes and colors.

Imperial Baths (Sharon Springs, New York)
Imperial Baths, Main St. Sharon Springs, built in 1927, was designed to impress the visitor with its size and elegance. The bathhouse was build by the White Sulphur Springs Company. It could provide 5,000 treatments a day. Until a few years ago, the Imperial Bath House was open in the summers.

Urban Scene (Albany, New York)
A building I saw on an Albany street which reflects the character and hard times of much of upstate New York.

Tulip and Leaves (Washington Park, Albany, New York)
This image came about as a result of my participation in an on-line group experiment in “overlaying” one image with a “pattern” extracted from another image using digital techniques. In this instance I overlayed a straight photo of an about-to-open tulip blossom with another simple photo of the leaves of some tulip plants. The challenge here was to maintain the lines showing the edges in the overlayed image (the leaves) over the main subject (the tulip) without obscuring the tulip.

Tickets (Schaghticoke Fair, Schaghticoke, New York)
My hope for this image was to capture both the colorful nature and the tacky aspect of some county fairs.

Utica Union Station (Utica, New York)
“Completed in 1914 by the New York Central Railroad, in a time when railroad stations were cathedrals to American commerce, Utica Union Station is a grand example of Italian Renaissance architecture. It was designed by the architectural firm of Stem & Fellheimer. Botticino or Vermont marble columns and a terrazzo floor, such as used in Grand Central Terminal in New York City, grace the 120 by 128 foot waiting room. The room could conceivably stand 1700 individuals while the original twelve 38 foot long double seats could accommodate 500.”

Derry Mural (Derry, Northern Ireland)
Taken through a bus window in Derry, Northern Ireland, in 2004.
This is one of the twelve famous “Bogside Murals” of Derry, Northern Ireland commemorating the “Troubles.” McCartney, an IRA member, was convicted of murder and while in prison engaged in a 1980 hunger strike commemorated in this Mural.
