Wildlife

Grizzlies and caribou and marmots, oh my! This trip to the Rockies was a great one for wildlife sightings: grizzly bear, black bear, caribou, moose, elk, and sheep. We also saw many marmots and pikas and a few new birds: Harlequin ducks, pileated woodpecker, American dippers. It was the Discovery Channel live when we got to watch two caribou lock antlers in the scenic Tonquin Valley and were kept awake by a bull elk bugling, snorting, and stamping outside our tent in the Whistlers Campground (hey, it's hard for a pimp out there! gotta keep the harem in line). It was interesting watching a grizzly paddle across a large river and male caribou swimming across Amethyst Lake - they certainly look more at home on land!
