Getting from Verona to Vernazza proved to be a small adventure. After a delayed train, missed connection, ticket reconfiguration, four trains, and a long travel day we finally made it to Vernazza. Well worth it though; from our first look Cinque Terre was stunning!
We checked in to our room at Memo Rooms then immediately headed back out to explore Vernazza. We got a snack (fried calamari in a paper cone - tasty!), visited the gelateria, and went to the small harbor. Norah played in the water and we watched the waves crash into the breakwater. It was rough seas that day and there was caution tape up where the waves were coming in. While Norah played I went up Doria Castle to admire the views and take some pictures. It was beautiful! We scoped out our dining options and as soon as it was dinner time we got a table at Ristorante Il Gambero Rosso. We sat outside with beautiful views and enjoyed our five course seafood meal, including anchovies, a local specialty. After dinner we walked on the path above the town to see the famous view of Vernazza at nighttime. It was a sight to behold and we would return here several times during our stay. The view of Vernazza from the other direction on the path to Corniglia was another favorite spot to view the beautiful town.
