Days 7-9: An urban hike, Point Reyes National Seashore, and good friends
Our last three days in the Bay Area were full of lots of quality friend time - it was really great to spend time with friends and catch up. Thursday morning we met Esther by Dolores Park and had brunch at Kitchen Story (bacon flight!). To work off that Millionaire’s Bacon we did an “urban hike” that took us to Corona Heights, Buena Vista, and back down through the Castro. We loved the views! In the early afternoon we drove to Piedmont to stay with Gina for three nights. After chatting for the afternoon, we grabbed a picnic dinner from Rockridge Market Hall and met Joanna, Padraic, and the kids at Temescal Park.
The next morning we drove to Point Reyes National Seashore to hike the Tomales Point Trail. We didn’t go all the way to the end - I think our round trip mileage was around five miles, although it didn’t feel like that much since it’s an easy trail. We loved the views, flowers, and Tule elk. Elk are nothing new to us since they are often in our yard or have to be chased off the school grounds, but it was so novel to see them in a coastal setting. We thought that was a pretty cool sighting. It was a beautiful day and we loved the hike. We made sure to finish in enough time to get to Cowgirl Creamery before they closed. We picked up cheese and accoutrements to have at home and all had a grilled cheese sandwich. Perfection! And as if that wasn’t enough, we stopped at Comforts Cafe to pick up the famous Chinese chicken salad for later.
Our final day was spent laughing non stop at Maisha’s with old friends (when we left Norah said “your friends are funny and cool”. High praise from the teenager, lol). And of course we had to have some good eats this day too. We stopped at Miette Patisserie to bring cupcakes and other desserts. The chocolate & Italian meringue cupcake was a favorite. We finished off the night eating our Cowgirl charcuterie with Gina and Stephen. Spending time with good friends was a perfect way to end our fantastic spring break trip!
