In 2016 we finally made it to Peru and trekked the Huayhuash Circuit in the beautiful Andes. We had an incredible trip and knew without a doubt we would be back. Turns out it was sooner than we thought - I guess we just couldn’t resist! Two years later we were back for another trek, this time the Alpamayo Circuit in the Cordillera Blanca. Chris Benway at Cima Logistics in Huaraz did a terrific job organizing our Huayhuash trek and we contacted him again for the Alpamayo Circuit. He helped us craft an itinerary based on our input and took care of all the logistics and details. Chris was great to work with and we also had a terrific team on the trek. Our guide Cesar had tons of information to share about the mountains and was always looking out for us on the trail. It was a pleasure spending our trek with him, as well as Joel, Tony, and Elmer (our cook and arrieros - we played many lively rounds of Uno with them!).

Our itinerary was 16 days/15 nights (excluding the travel day back to NY):

Day 1: travel from NY to Lima, overnight Lima (Holiday Inn Lima Airport)
Day 2: Flight to Huaraz, overnight Huaraz (Olaza’s Guest House)
Day 3: Laguna Parón hike, overnight Caraz (Apu EcoLodge)
Day 4: Laguna 69 hike, overnight Caraz (Apu EcoLodge)
Days 5-14: Alpamayo Circuit
Day 15: Exit Alpamyo Circuit, return to Huaraz (Villa Valencia)
Day 16: bus from Huaraz to Lima, red eye flight back to NY

The Cordillera Blanca and the Alpamayo Circuit were absolutely beautiful. We had an awesome trek and it ranks up there as one of our best vacations. It’s no wonder that Peru has quickly become one of our favorite places. :)
