Page Overnight December 2019: The New Wave and Edmaiers Secret (and a bonus Lipan Point)

We squeezed in a quick overnight trip to Page in December and were looking forward to exploring some new spots. But first, we had to stop at Lipan Point for sunrise. While we were driving on Desert View Drive we could see the winter storm was already moving in and we suspected it would be a fantastic sunrise. We weren't disappointed. The clouds produced some dramatic lighting and we loved watching the canyon shift colors and looks as the light changed. It was definitely one of our top ten sunrises in the canyon.

The clouds and dramatic lighting continued as we drove to Page and it was a scenic drive on 89. Because the light was looking good, we decided to stop at the New Wave on our way to Buckskin Gulch. Although this scenic area is easily accessible outside of Page, we had never been before. It didn't take long to hike the loop around the main rock formation and we easily could've spent more time here, but needed to continue to our main destination at Buckskin Gulch. We will definitely be back though - what a cool little spot.

We have been on House Rock Valley Road multiple times, but have never started at the Buckskin Gulch trailhead. We were the only car in the parking lot as we set out to explore Edmaiers Secret. We walked about an hour down the main wash until a side wash entered from the left side. This was our cue to head off trail and start exploring the amazing rocks and formations in this area. We absolutely loved it! Not only were the rocks amazing, but the off and on sprinkles produced a beautiful rainbow that was the icing on the cake. We barely scratched the surface here and suspect it will take multiple return visits to really see the area.

We stayed overnight in Page and woke the next morning to snow. It would've been scenic to see snow in the Page area, but the visibility was nil so we decided to head back home. There was some clearing when we arrived at the canyon and stopped at Lipan Point again. More fantastic views - the winter storms really do produce some of the best views of the canyon!

It was a great overnight - we'll be back soon for more exploring!
