Day 2: The Color Factory and The Met

We certainly didn’t waste a minute on our second day in NYC. We were up early to visit the Dominique Ansel Bakery. I finally got a cronut - about ten years after the craze, lol. It was tasty, as was the cookie shot and the ham and cheese croissant Norah got. We were fueled and ready for our 9 am Color Factory ticket time. While the 9 am tickets were not as fun for getting up earlier, it was nice for solitude - we either had rooms to ourselves or just a few people before or after us in the rooms. The Color Factory “invites visitors to experience the joy of color through interactive installations, immersive rooms and carefully curated moments”. When you enter you get a QR code that you scan and enter your email address. In the following rooms you can scan your QR code and take pictures and at the end you get an email with the link to your pictures (I thought this was a nice touch). There are definitely some fun photo ops and it was fun to walk through, although I’m not convinced it is worth the price of admission (it felt like a poor man’s Meow Wolf). Overall, it wasn’t a bad way to spend an hour or so and it was fun feeling like a kid again playing in the ball pit (I know, I know - I totally thought “Covid Pit” too, lol).

Since we were already downtown, Norah wanted to stop by the Oculus, so we hopped on a subway to stop in the Oculus, visit a few shops, and have lunch at Eataly (yes, again - but hey, it was a different location!). Then it was all the way uptown to Central Park. Normally we would have visited the original Levain (*sigh* those cookies), but we were not the least bit hungry so just took a walk through Central Park on our way to The Met. We have visited The Met several times before and wanted to see some of our favorites (Monet, Van Gogh, Tiffany) and also took the opportunity to check out some current exhibits - In America: An Anthology of Fashion, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, and Kimono Style: The John C. Weber Collection. As always, it was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. And of course we had to visit the gift shop - museum gift shops are our favorites! In the evening we met friends for dinner at Miznon in Chelsea Market (you know the green beans were awesome if I’m still thinking about them) and dessert at Ample Hills Creamery. Perfect end to a great day!
