Days 5 & 6: The Vanderbilt Mansion and Titanique in NYC
Tuesday was another nice day and we took a walk at the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park. We spent countless hours here when we lived in Pleasant Valley and it was fun to revisit the grounds. I made sure to snap some photos of Norah in spots we often used for photoshoots when she was little. We met Daniela for lunch at Lola’s Cafe in Poughkeepsie then caught up with EmiJo when school let out. Norah and EmiJo have been friends since daycare and we were happy we were able to see her. I couldn’t get over how grown up both girls looked since our last time together in 2019! Our last evening in the Hudson Valley was spent with Zumba friends having dinner at Sal’s in Fishkill (unfortunately the still recovering Achilles precluded going to an actual Zumba class).
We had one last get together with friends on Wednesday before catching Metro North to NYC. It was an IBM throwback having lunch with Dinah, Kathy, and Larry at the Red Line Diner. So many memories in the Hudson Valley! I’m glad we were able to catch up with so many friends and revisit some favorite spots.
We arrived at Grand Central Terminal in NYC in the afternoon and took the subway to Union Square, where we would be staying with Anshu for the next four nights. We walked to Eataly for an early dinner and then to the Daryl Roth Theater in Union Square for the evening performance of Titanique. A description from their website:
“Our story begins when Céline Dion hijacks a Titanic Museum tour and enchants the audience with her totally wild take, recharting the course of Titanic’s beloved moments and characters with her iconic song catalog.
Featuring powerhouse voices and show-stopping numbers (plus, contemporary pop culture and punchy odes to the 90s film), Titanique is a one-of-a-kind musical voyage bursting with nostalgia & heart. It's a pure love letter comedy, fun and all things joyful!”
It really was a funny and joyful show - we thoroughly enjoyed it! Afterwards we went to Max Brenner with Anshu for some late night treats - wine, chocolate, and good company are always great ways to end a day.
