Adirondacks - Jay Range

On Sunday, August 28, 2005 Kathy and I hiked the Jay Range in the Adirondacks. The Jay Range hike is another trailess hike, although it is not considered a high peak. But, for what Jay lacks in elevation it more than compensates in views. It is about 2 miles and 2,000 elevation gain to the first lookout on the Jay Mountains, then from there it is a 1 mile open traverse over bare rock to the true summit. The traverse provides constant views of the surrounding valley and north to Whiteface Mountain. I am told there are also spectacular view of the High Peaks region from the summit, but I did not see them due to heavy cloud cover.
