Burgess Pass from Emerald Lake

For our second dayhike in Yoho we chose to do Burgess Pass, viewed here from the shores of Emerald Lake. The loop was 13 miles and the first mile followed the west shore of Emerald Lake before breaking off and crossing an alluvial flat (which is constantly encroaching into the lake and will eventually fill it up). The trail then switchbacked up the mountain to Yoho Pass past a glacier fed waterfall. Yoho Pass was the pass least like a pass that I had ever been to; it was basically a trail junction in the forest. From Yoho Pass we continued to climb as the trail traversed Wapta Peak. We passed the world famous Burgess Fossil beds (closed to the general public). Up until this point the day had been overcast and dreary and I was not expecting anything special out of this hike. But as we continued to Burgess Pass the gray turned to patches of blue and puffy white clouds appeared. When we reached the pass and climbed a small hill with a rocky summit we were blown away by the view.
