While staying at Savegre we did an all day hike from the top of Cerro de la Muerte, also known as "death hill", which at 11,500' in the Talamanca range is Costa Rica's second highest point. We drove on the Pan American highway to our starting point -- a sub-alpine mountain top with views of the Pacific Ocean, surrounding mountains, and Savegre valley. We also spotted a volcano junco (unique to this area) at the beginning of our hike.
