In the UNLIKELY EVENT ...

Two rapids after Skull we came to Sock-it-to-Me ("can sometimes provide a bit of carnage entertainment"), a quick drop with a big wave at the bottom. We went in to the drop and instead of our boat being straightforward to hit the big wave, we were sideways. It was pretty weird how time seemed to stand still as our raft was suspended in air, yet I didn't even have time to utter the expletive I was thinking or take a big breath of air before we were plunged into the Colorado. Anshu and I were sitting across from each other and she was on the side of the raft that was high in the air, nearly directly above me, but somehow we both ended up under the raft. At lunch we were told to place our hands on the raft and walk out from underneath, which we both managed to do. It felt like I was under the boat for a long time, but it was actually probably no more than 7 seconds. When I hit the water I had taken a big gulp of water and a bunch went up my nose, so when I came out from underwater, I was coughing and trying to keep my head high enough to not intake any more water (we had very bouyant life jackets, but were still in some minor rapids and waves, so we were bobbing quite a bit). When I came out I reached for the boat but was on the downstream side and was swept away before I could get a grasp on it. Reassuringly, Anshu and I ended up next to each other. We grabbed a hold of one another and made our way to the wall, where we held on to some rocks until we were picked up by another boat. Kind of scary in the initial moments underwater, but obviously it all turned out alright. :)

The people in the other boats said watching our boat hang in the air and flip was kind of cool (easy for them to say!) and some people even snapped some pics (we're hoping to get one). Even though our waterproof camera made it through, we didn't get any good action shots in the rapids as we were always hanging on for dear life, so this picture I pulled off the web will have to do.
