In the Needles district we did a hike from Elephant Hill to the Chesler Park/Joint Trail loop, about eleven miles total. I loved this hike ... fantastic scenery being surrounded by cool rock formations (mainly needles) and fun hiking (I like hiking on slick rock). Also, while hordes of people visit Arches and the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands, significantly fewer people make it to the Needles section, so we had a lot of the trail to ourselves. We did run into a ranger from Capital Reef who enlightened us on fins, needles, mushrooms, and hoodoos.
