The ascent up Royce Peak was not as exciting as Merriam, it was more of a scree slog, one step up, slide two steps back. We picked our way on solid rock as much as possible, and soon made the summit. We actually saw another party near the summit of Royce Peak. They had camped in the area that we thought would be worthy of a future trip.
In this photo, you can see a good piece of our route in the southerly diretion. You can see Puppet Lake, Puppet Pass, and the omnipresent Mount Humphreys, a 14,000er.
