After a grueling first day of backingpacking 4000' of elevation gain with 50+ pound packs, we made it to Royce Pass and Royce Lake No. 2, which sets literally 10 feet below the pass. We found a small flat spot among the boulder piles and set up our bivy for the next two nights. There was one other party camped along Royce Lake No. 2, but we essentially had the whole place to ourselves.
