Huron Peak - 11 miles, 3800 feet elevation gain (includes road walk from the parking area close to Winfield Ghost Town).

Our last peak of the trip was a good one. At 14,003 feet, Huron Peak in the Collegiate Peaks is 52/53 of the Colorado 14ers (Sunshine just squeaks by at 14,001 feet). Steve also added on La Plata which is 14,336 feet. Steve headed to La Plata and Norah and I set out for Huron. We had a warmup walk on the road up to the trailhead then started a steady climb through the forest. We had a break in the climb when the trail took us through a nice alpine basin below the peak. We took a short break as we eyed the rest of the route up the ridge and the final push to the summit. The final bit of the peak was steep and rocky and while not difficult, we did choose our steps with care (especially going down). The views from the summit were fantastic and we took a long break at the top. Some nice clouds had formed and we also had terrific views on our hike back down. We really enjoyed this hike and it was a good one to end our trip on.
