After 9 days in Torres del Paine National Park, we began the 12 hour journey over dirt roads to the fontier town of El Chalten, Argentina, home to Cerro Fitzroy. Parque National Los Glaciares in divided into a Southern Sector (which is largely inaccessible) and the more frequently visited Northern Sector, home to the Fitzroy Massif. Cerro Fitzroy, the largest mountain of the group, was named after the captain of The Beagle, which was Charles Darwin's ship on his groundbreaking expedition to South America, which was the foundation of modern evolutionary theory.
Our intentions in the Fitzroy Range were to explore the valleys surronding the peaks of the Fitzroy group. This included trips to Laguna Torre where we saw breathtaking views of Cerro Torre, and next to Campamento Poincenot, a central base camp for exploring several lakes and glaciers under the shadow of Cerro Fitzroy. After our backcountry trek we dayhiked to Lomo del Pliegue Tumbado (our favorite!) for excellent views of the entire range. We also retraced some of our previous backcountry route during a period of better weather.
Breathtaking shots - VOTED! We just came back from Patagonia; spent only two days in El Chalten (way too short). Maybe you want to look at our shots: Travel abroad > Patagonia.
Regards, Renate and Franz.
Very nice collection of landscape pictures, especially these at El Chalten.
Wish I go back there soon...
I'll put a link to your 2 galleries in mine
Best regards.
