After leaving Baxter State Park in the North Woods of Maine, Kathy and I headed to the Maine Coast. We scored a beautiful campsite at Cobscook Bay State Park outside of Lubec on our first night near the coast. Cobscook is one of the few places where you can legally car camp on the ocean. Near Cobscook we visited Quoddy Head State Park and the town of Lubec, ME. The following morning we rose early to hike the Cutler Coast, one of our favorite parts of the entire trip. During our hike of the Cutler Coast we spotted seals, porpoises, and one bald eagle. The rugged coast was so beautiful, and felt very wild. After hiking the Cutler Coast we made our way to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park (ANP). After being in Baxter State Park and the Cutler Coast for 6 days it was shocking to arrive in Acadia National Park. I saw more people in the first 100 yards of hiking in ANP than I did for the prior 6 days combined. But crowds does not mean you cannot have fun, and ANP is certainly a worthy destination with the right disposition and patience. Our favorite part of ANP was going on a ranger led program where we learned about the tide pools created between high and low tides. You can find and identify so many species of life in the tide pools including crab and starfish. ANP also offers beautiful coastline, and can be enjoyed if you hike before about 9:00 AM.
