After a day in the canyons, it was time to switch gears and enter the world of arches and fins. Arches National Park is a relatively small national park, but it has a high density of fascinating rock formations and beauty. To kick off our day we planned on a hike in Devil’s Garden. Our prior day in Canyonlands was a long one, so we weren’t exactly up at the break of dawn. We were up early enough however to beat any lines at the entrance booths and easily get parking at the trailhead.
I’ve previously hiked the full primitive loop, but in the interest of time and avoiding slickrock with exposure, we opted for an out and back hike to Double O Arch. The hike to Double O Arch is four miles roundtrip and if you do all the spur trails, add in a little extra mileage. With six arches in four miles, this gem of a hike has a lot of bang for your buck and was a great way to spend a morning in Arches.
