Giotto painted the Bardi Chapel in 1320-25.
This panel is called the Bardi St. Francis, as it resides in the Bardi Chapel alongside Giotto’s fresco of St. Clare. The panel was painted between 1250-1260 for the original church of Santa Croce (not the current basilica, which was founded in 1294).
The unknown artist is called “Master of the Bardi St. Francis”.
