This vine is not actually supposed to be on this tree -- it is supposed to be covering up the ugly white fence behind the tree -- but it apparently crept under some other plants and started up the tree. And a vine on a tree is probably not all that good for the tree. However, we just had the tree pruned and thinned out, and discovered that it probably only has another 5 years before it should be taken down. Ergo, the vine isn't going to be a problem for the tree.
