This time of year, there are a bazillion tiny bugs. They are short lived, and spend most of the day around trees. At night, they surround lights (and are actually small enough to get in through screens). They also tend to congregate where it is warmer, even following the painted line separating lanes on the road. They don't bite or anything, but enough of them can still be crunchy underfoot the next day....
