Despite the meaning of its name in English (it doesn't mean anything in Latvian), Ogre is just a nice, little, peaceful town at Daugava river in Greater Riga area. Once it was a home to a huge textiles factory "Ogres Trikotaza", but its much diminshed rump recently closed down for good after years of bitter post-Soviet struggle for survival. Now some electronics manufacturing and food processing is done in Ogre, but most of people commute to Riga. The best place for having lunch there is a restaurant called "Policijas Akademija".
