Kraslava is a town in south eastern Latgale on the banks of mighty Daugava river. It has been a home to the most powerful feodal family in Latgale, the Platers. The walls of their manor, not under recontruction, overlook the place. Town's cathedral is a very impressive building. Driving through the main street one gets the feeling of being in a large Russian village due to colourful wooden homes. The region is very picturesque both thanks to Daugava and numerous lakes to the north.
