Jekabpils is a relatively large regional centre in Latvia. It is located where three out of four main Latvian regions - Vidzeme, Zemgale and Latgale meet. It is ethnically and religiously diverse place with a significant number of Russian speakers and various faiths being represented. You can find Russian Orthodox, Russian Old Believer, Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist churches there. The downtown has a little bit of historic feel yet somehow lacks cozyness. Daugava, Latvia's largest river flows throught the town, causing occasional flooding risks.
