Bauska

Bauska is a town in South-Central Zemgale, a fertile grain growing region. It is located at the confluence of Musa and Memele rivers that form Lielupe, one of the largest in Latvia. Near this spot you can see Bauska castle, a rather well preserved and enthusiastically restaured castle though one could question the authenticity element in the process. One hour spend for a walk in the centre will not be completely wasted, but the historic looking town house is a fake, recently build from scratch.

You will absolutely enjoy a visit to Rundale palace about 10km away, the only true palace in Latvia though Latvians spread the term far and wide, also on places probably more appropriately called manors. Mežotne manor or palace, much smaller, but similarly splendid is a similar distance away. Not far from Bauska there is also an interesting exhibition of vintage cars, in Uzvara village.
