Upper Roughlock

April 14th

Little Spearfish Creek runs about 4 miles before it empties into Spearfish Canyon. The ending, (the winter scene), of the movie "Dances with Wolves" was filmed about 2 miles up from Roughlock Falls. The area is so named because the canyon was so steep the prospectors in the late 1870's had to tie the wagon wheels, or "roughlocking" them, as a braking system while decsending to the logging encampment of Savoy.

Gorgeous color...a photographers dream. I remember that part of Dances with Wolves and the snowy hills. Voted.
