The Red-spotted Purple mimics the toxic, bright blue Pipevine Swallowtail, thus gaining protection from
birds. This species perches on gravel roads and are often found dead along roads as well. Thanks
to Donna Race of pbase for assistance in confirming the identity of this butterfly.
