The Gannet Colony At Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve--Two Images

The top image shows Bird Rock, a 100 meter tall sandstone stack that is separated from the mainland viewing area by a ravine only
15-20 meters wide. However, shooting down on Bird Rock requires the photographer to set up one's tripod on a ledge, not
good if you suffer from vertigo! This did not faze my colleague, Judy Yaker, who is very skilled at bird flight shots,
and flying gannets were constantly abundant on the left side of Bird Rock.

The bottom image shows the cliffside area to the right of Bird Rock, and I was quite content to set up my equipment on a wide
enough strip of land that constituted the viewing area there. As you can see, many of the gannets were close enough to
photograph without fear of dying.

I had no idea what this was from the thumbnail. What an amazing sight all these birds together, and the steepness is very apparent in both images. Great clarity and lots of details. Beautiful blue of the sea in the second image. "V"
