Eve and I took a 257 mile 4th of July bike ride waaaayyyy up into the Great White North to Laona, WI. and their logging camp and steam engine. The "4-Spot" engine was built in 1916 and is a prairie style locomotive, designed to operate on the mid-west prairies. The engine takes you to Camp 5, a former logging camp, where you disembark and spend an hour or two or three, and then catch the train back to the depot in Laona. The train runs every hour.
We intended to stop on the way up and have breakfast, but nothing was open, and most of the trip was through some pretty remote areas...on arriving at Camp 5 they did have a snack bar, but nothing other than burgers and hot dogs and since I don't eat meat, I had to get by on a Diet Coke and some chips...we finally got breakfast about 4:00 in the afternoon on our way home.
