An antique 19th Century or earlier tsakli painting in mineral pigments depicting within a churning ocean beneath a cloudy sky, a benevolent Naga King with a 9 serpent crown in yabyum with his white bodied Sakti, a Nagini. He wears his hair in a high inverted lotus capped chignon with a jewel tip, held back by a rich diadem as befits his position. His hands clasping in a prayerful attitude a large norbu, or jewel, representing the treasure and wisdom over which he is guardian. Treasure, in the form of jewels and texts or sutras lie beneath the waves of the Nagas watery kingdom to the bottom corners of the painting. His consort likewise holds a gem in her left hand. They both wear silken dhotis, and their powerful serpents tails intertwine in the personification of wisdom and compassion. 9 x 11.3cm
