An antique, 19th Century or earlier depiction, in vivid mineral pigments of a Bonpo lotus throne resting atop a typical facetted Bon base with its diminutive animal figures to each panel - a horse, a lion, an elephant and a garuda. Bonpo is the pre-Buddhist faith of Tibet, and animism forms part of its practices and is frequently found in its iconography. A votive cloth hangs from beneath the lavish lotus, which has a backdrop of medicinal herbs; a blue bowl filled with offerings in the foreground.
