Padmasambhava

An antique, 19th Century or earlier (much earlier) tsakli painting in mineral pigments depicting the seated Padmasambhava / Guru Rinpoche enveloped in heavy multi-layered winter robes trimmed with tiger skin and his characteristic multi-peaked hat, his right hand holding a dorje, his left in his lap in the mudra of meditation, holding a kepala filled with 'gold' a khatvanga beneath his arm. He is seated within a dark (oxidised due to age) nimbus, on a lotus throne, his head surrounded by a green mandorla. To his left is seated a small donor figure, offering a bowl/kepala - the dhoti of the donor is similarly oxidised with age. He wears his hair tied well back in a high chignon, heavy 'gold' earrings and a green celestial scarf. This tsakli has been reinforced to the reverse. Two lines and a syllable to the reverse. Overall measurement is 9.5 x 13cm - image size is 10 x 7.3cm
