This album was created on 11 Nov. 2006, the last day of operation of the Star Ferry Pier in Central.
The Star Ferry was once an important means of transportation between Hong Kong island and the Kowloon peninsula, connecting the most
important business districts of these two areas. With the development of land transportation across the harbour, ferry transportation has lost
its significance gradually.
To give way for land reclamation, the pier and its clock tower have now to be demolished after serving the public for 48 years. As usual, the
pace of Hong Kong society will never stop and there is no room to preserve the heritage of the city.
Though the pier would start a new life in a nearby area, we will not forget the memories that the old pier brought to us and the pleasant
and symbolic chime produced by the clock tower.
