Yup! You're on your way. f/7.1 on a dslr is too wide an aperture to get more in focus. You have to go much smaller - and probably use flash. You can get away with f/8 on the Sony because that's the smallest aperture you can get on that camera, but on dslrs you really have to shut down much more than 7.1.
