04092005 sunday papers

A quiet afternoon, drinking beer (not me - Dad!), reading the Sunday papers
and waiting in the sunshine for the forecast rain and thunder to arrive (LOL looks like
they got it wrong, now there's a surprise eh friends).

We've all been thinking and worrying a lot about the impact of Hurricane
Katrina this weekend, especially about acquaintances over there and the poor people
we've seen on the news. For us it's easy, we can switch the telly off when we find
the news reports too grim. People and dogs who live in New Orleans can't do that.
For them the horror is immediate and real.

For us it's still difficult to comprehend
and visualise. We saw one man on the telly who refused to evacuate his house
because he couldn't take his dog with him. They both stayed at home but came
through the hurricane safely and left together afterwards. Now that's the sort of
survival story I like. Dad says he hopes help reaches everyone who needs it very, very, VERY soon!

Dad: our thoughts are particularly with:
Gayle, who has been kind enough to keep us informed even when she has so
much on her plate - http://www.pbase.com/gpc
And Coleen, whose pride in and affection for her home area shone through in every
photograph, and I am quite sure WILL again - http://www.pbase.com/septembermorn

I am just getting to see this. Thank you for your nice comments. We had no idea what a catastrophe Katrina would be to the City of New Orleans and surrounding areas.

Good sentiments - and, what a surprise, it looks like Pooch found the sunny spot in your garden!

Very cute shot...is that where Pooch gets when you want to instal
the ear drops? I agree with Laine, that's a perfect spot for
a climbing rose :) Heartily agree with all your sentiments re NO and
the lack of assistance for those poor souls who've lost everything and/or
people & faithful pets they love.

What a perfect place to grow climbing roses ;>) Sunshine & perfume too !!
Here is another pbase member who has suffered too. This is Paul Dovie's home <http://www.pbase.com/choochooboss/image/48617799
Gayle's daughter Elaine has had her home damged too <http://www.pbase.com/etfitz/image/48302424
And Josh Meyer who contacted me again this weekend who evacuated safely, but has learned his home is 6 feet under water in New Orleans <http://www.pbase.com/sonnyandcher/root
At last the rescue has begun...too late for some poor souls.

Zak is absolutley right - The storm and the lack of adequate response is source of great sadness. It good reminder for all us to squeeze a bit of joy out of every day.
